Xcaret Group, a leading provider of sustainable tourism experiences in Mexico, is set to loan a Baird's Tapir (Tapirus bairdii) to La Reina Zoo and Botanical Park in Tizimín for three years, starting July 20, 2024. This historic agreement is designed to strengthen the partnership between Xcaret Group and La Reina Zoo, contributing to the zoo's ongoing growth and improvement.
The loan is part of Xcaret Group's commitment to promoting knowledge and pride in the biodiversity of the Yucatán Peninsula. "We're delighted to support initiatives that raise awareness of the Yucatán's endemic species, which are a vital part of our country's biocultural wealth," says Rodolfo Raigoza from Xcaret Group's Conservation Directorate. "This Tapir loan to La Reina Zoo is a significant step in our ongoing commitment to conserving and preserving local fauna. It also offers a fantastic opportunity to share our experience with like-minded organisations."
The Tapir, a species emblematic of the region, will join a special care program at La Reina Zoo. Visitors to the zoo will have the chance to learn about the Tapir's ecological importance and its role in the Yucatán Peninsula ecosystem.
Xcaret Group continues to demonstrate its commitment to conserving Mexico's biodiversity and promoting respect for wildlife. Through tangible actions like this loan, the group contributes to the preservation of endemic species and the environmental education of the community.
