A young woman recently shared her experience on TikTok about being asked to leave a cafe in Tulum. She was questioning an 8% fee added to her bill for paying with a card. The video, posted on the Lifewithgenn account, began shortly after the incident.
The woman described her negative experience at the cafe, where she was charged an additional fee for using a card. "I asked why there was an 8% increase when I paid with a card," she explained as she walked around. She stated that a cafe worker told her she would not be served and asked her to leave.
She expressed regret for questioning the additional charge on her food, but felt that the response she received was unprofessional and unjust. She was forced to leave the establishment due to her inquiry about the extra fee.
The video quickly gained traction on TikTok, amassing over 1.4 million views and being shared across various online platforms. The majority of user comments supported the young woman, arguing that the 8% charge was illegal. Others suggested she report the incident to Profeco, the Mexican consumer protection agency.
