The Ministry of Tourism Development (SEFOTUR) recently held a meeting with the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Foods Industry (CANIRAC) to discuss strategies for establishing Yucatán as a leading gastronomic destination. The meeting was part of Yucatán's recognition as the "Pre-Columbian Ibero-American Capital of Gastronomic Culture", a title that celebrates the region's rich culinary heritage, deeply rooted in Mayan cuisine.
The government of Yucatán, led by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, is committed to promoting the area's culinary traditions and gastronomic tourism. The meeting provided an opportunity for SEFOTUR, CANIRAC, and local businesses to share ideas and proposals to enhance Yucatán's culinary reputation, ultimately strengthening the local economy.
The meeting, held at CANIRAC's facilities, was attended by Darío Flota Ocampo, head of SEFOTUR, and Claudia González Góngora, from CANIRAC. They agreed to develop special activities that highlight the unique culinary offerings of Yucatán, which have garnered national and international interest.
The focus of these activities will be on key areas of the state, including Valladolid, the second most visited municipality by tourists after Mérida. The diversity and quality of the restaurant sector are seen as a competitive advantage in attracting various types of tourism, including sports, conventions, wellness, and weddings.
CANIRAC's president, Claudia González, reaffirmed her commitment to work with the state government and SEFOTUR to continue positioning Yucatán's gastronomy as a world-class attraction. The meeting fostered open dialogue among entrepreneurs, allowing them to share experiences, concerns, and proposals with the aim of enhancing tourism quality through excellence in the restaurant sector.
