Yucatan’s Cruise Tourism Booms: Plans for 2024-2025

Throughout April, Yucatan made its presence known at several national and international events. The goal was to highlight the state's many attractions to travel agencies, tour operators, shipping companies, and tourists.

The month began with Yucatan's participation in Seatrade Cruise Global 2024 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The state was prominently featured at the "Ports of Mexico" booth. Yucatan was also present at the "Meeting the Planners" event, hosted by the Cruise Professional Advisors Alliance (CPAA). This event was designed to foster business relationships with route planning executives from top global shipping companies.

In total, 15 business meetings were conducted with leading cruise lines, including Carnival Corp, Carnival UK, Cunard, Disney Cruise Line, Explora Journeys, Four Seasons, Margarita Ville at Sea, Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania, P & O, Regent, Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection, Royal Caribbean, Silversea, and Virgin Voyages. An additional 19 meetings were held with companies involved in the cruise industry such as Baja Ferries, Autonomus Executive Port Commission of El Salvador, Hutchison Ports ECV, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Santa Catalina Island, Sectur Baja California, Sectur Chiapas, and Sectur Puerto Vallarta, among others.

The extensive promotion of the Port of Progreso as a cruise destination has paid off. The new shipping company, Margaritaville at Sea, announced plans to begin operations in Yucatan with 12 arrivals in 2024, followed by an additional 28 arrivals in 2025. Based in Tampa, Florida, the company will offer itineraries to the Yucatan Peninsula and the Caribbean, with a cruise ship that can accommodate 2,114 passengers.

Seatrade Cruise Global is a major event in the cruise industry, attracting companies from a wide range of sectors, including ports and destinations, construction and design, security, technology, entertainment, health, environment, hospitality, and concessions.
