Over 30 cycling clubs, comprising more than 400 cyclists, recently participated in the fifth annual Puruxes MTB Cause Ride in Hunucmá, Yucatan. The event, which involved a 40-kilometer ride through three surrounding communities, aimed to collect toys for children in rural areas during the holiday season.
The cyclists began their journey at Hunucmá's main park at 6:30 a.m., eager to contribute to a cause that will bring joy to children in various communities this December. The riders, full of energy and camaraderie, crossed the finish line from 8:30 a.m. onwards.
Simultaneously, a children's ride was held in the town's central square. This event, which included children from the cycling clubs and other local children, was part of a broader initiative to encourage sports participation and healthy living.
From 9:00 a.m., the participants enjoyed games and activities organized by the event's sponsors. These activities emphasized the importance of community and collective effort, particularly in supporting causes that bring joy to vulnerable areas. They also aimed to teach children the value of solidarity.
Manuel Dzul, the leader of Puruxes MTB, praised the cyclists for their participation and their commitment to a cause that continues to grow in popularity and impact. He noted that the collected toys would be distributed to communities in Hunucmá and Mérida before Christmas.
Dzul also highlighted that the Cause Ride has been an annual event since 2019, gaining more support each year. He noted that mountain biking is becoming increasingly popular, with many people enjoying the opportunity to connect with nature through the various routes available in the state.
