Yucatán Landowners Await Payment for Mayan Train Lands

Landowners in Chan Yokdzonot and Pisté, home to stations for the Mayan Train project, are yet to receive compensation for their lands. Despite the train stations now being operational, these landowners are left uncertain about whether they will be paid. They express frustration over the lack of clarity and feel they have been misled.

Recently, it was reported that the federal government has expropriated 91.4 hectares across five states for the Mayan Train project. Almost half of this land, 45.3 hectares, is located in nine municipalities in Yucatán, as per the decree published in the Official Journal of the Federation.

In Yucatán, the expropriation affects 48 properties spread across Mérida, Kanasín (which has 28 lands, the highest number), Umán, Tixpéhual, Tixkokob, Chocholá, Izamal (which has the largest land area of 43,811.29 m2), Tinum, and Valladolid.

A similar situation unfolded in the populations of Sisbicchén and X-Can, boroughs of Chemax. Here, residents were promised works in exchange for their lands, but these promises were not fulfilled. As a result, they have not been compensated for their lands, leaving the issue unresolved even as the Mayan Train continues to operate.
