In a shocking act of environmental disregard, heavy machinery has begun filling in the mangrove from Dzilam de Bravo to Santa Clara. This is a significant ecological catastrophe, aiming to transform the protected area into a part of the "new Mexico Riviera". Local fishermen have been urging the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection to intervene since Saturday, as they watch the destruction of the mangrove unfold unchecked.
The residents of Dzilam de Bravo have identified the most critical area of damage at kilometer 27, situated between their port and Santa Clara. They allege that a high-ranking politician from a family of businesspeople is orchestrating this ecological crime through proxies. The mangrove devastation along the Dzilam de Bravo beaches has sparked fury among the fishermen and community residents. They accuse politicians and businesspeople of scheming to unlawfully claim these lands.
The complaints suggest that politicians associated with the National Action Party of Yucatán, in collusion with the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa), are falsifying documents in the Dzidzantún municipality. This would enable them to seize lands from Dzilam de Bravo while completely disregarding the area's environmental protection.
The community is deeply concerned, not only about the mangrove destruction, which is crucial for local fishermen's livelihood, but also about the blatant breach of environmental laws and the abuse of power by those entrusted with safeguarding the natural heritage and communal lands. Residents are calling for an immediate halt to the destructive activities and a comprehensive investigation into those involved, before it becomes too late to salvage what remains of the Dzilam de Bravo mangrove.
