Local Artists in Puerto Morelos Tap into Public and Private Funds

The Municipal Institute of Culture and Arts in Puerto Morelos recently invited local artists to a workshop on how to access resources from state, national, and international funds. The workshop aimed to strengthen the artistic community in Puerto Morelos and was held at the Cultural Center and Museum.

Adriana Nava Gómez, the director of the institute, announced that the event attracted around 30 local artists. These artists have projects that could benefit various sectors of the community, but they need resources to get started.

"We have many people who are passionate about culture, and who are professionals in various disciplines. They want to keep contributing to Puerto Morelos with their knowledge and creations. That's why we're opening up spaces for them and teaching them how to win the funds available at the state, national, and international level," Gómez stated.

Perla Paola Sánchez Vázquez, president of the Citizen Council for Culture and Arts of Quintana Roo, led the workshop. She emphasized that everyone has the right to culture in its various forms and that the goal is to expand its reach through access to public funds.

Sánchez Vázquez covered topics such as applying for funds, formulating general objectives, defining the type of application, and identifying additional funding sources. She stressed the importance of clarity in the project proposal, whether it's for teaching art classes, writing a book, or organizing exhibitions, and the impact it will have on the community or location where it will be implemented.

She also explained the process of the Quintana Roo government's Program for the Stimulus of Artistic Creation and Development (PECDA). This program offers a pool of resources every year to support creative and innovative projects that contribute to the artistic and cultural development of the state.

In addition to public funding, artists also have the option of seeking private financing. Sánchez Vázquez reiterated her support for the artists of Puerto Morelos, encouraging the growth of cultural activity in the municipality and the continued creation of spaces for the community.
