The Yucatan Pride March 2024 is set to take place on June 15th and is expected to attract around 25,000 participants. The event is a vibrant celebration of sexual and gender diversity in the state, filled with color, music, and fun.
Carlos Gomez, Coordinator of the Organizing Committee for the Yucatan Pride March 2024, stated that the primary aim of this year's event is to highlight and protect the rights of the LGBT+ community in the state. The march, while festive, also carries a serious message, advocating for inclusion, respect, and equality for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
The Pride March has been a staple event in the area for 22 years. Traditionally, participants gather at the Monument to the Homeland and march through Paseo de Montejo, turning at 47, heading up at 58, and ending at Plaza Grande. However, this year's route may be subject to change due to construction work at Plaza Grande.
The Pride March is not only a significant cultural event, but it also provides a platform for reflection on the progress made and the challenges still faced by the LGBT+ community in contemporary society. The Yucatan Pride March 2024 is anticipated to be a joyful and lively space for activism, where individuals can freely express themselves and celebrate diversity.
This year's march will feature a special focus on the drag queen community. Known as "La Mont", the local drag queen stated that drag queens will be the highlight of the event, bringing an extra level of excitement and energy to the march. The finale of the Drag Queen of Diversity 2024 will also take place, marking its third consecutive year. The event is eagerly anticipated and will showcase local drag queen talent.
