Yucatán Set to Host Major International Events in 2025

Two beach volleyball teams compete in a match, with one player mid-air about to hit the ball over the net, and the others watching or ready to respond, on a sand court surrounded by audience stands.

Yucatán is set to host at least two major events, including an international one, in 2025. Rommel Pacheco Marrufo, the director of the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sport (Conade), announced that Yucatán will be one of the three locations for the Beach Volleyball World Tour next year. This announcement came during the Indoor Archery Championship held at the La Inalámbrica Sports Complex.

Marrufo stated that Yucatán, along with Quintana Roo and Veracruz, will host the Beach World Tour. The Challenge category of the tour will take place in Yucatán from March 20 to 23, although the specific location has not been disclosed. Marrufo emphasized that these international events will significantly boost the local economy and promote the sport.

Following the Challenge event in Yucatán, Veracruz will host the next Challenge event from March 26 to 30 and the Elite tournament from April 3 to 6. The Beach Volleyball World Tour will conclude in Adelaide, Australia, after 15 global events.

In addition to the Beach Volleyball World Tour, Yucatán will also host three aquatic sports events as part of the Conade Nationals, previously known as the National Olympics. These events include triathlon, open water swimming, and sailing. The dates and other venues for these events are yet to be announced, but they are expected to take place between April and May, with consideration for the Holy Week dates.

Marrufo emphasized the importance of hosting high-level events in Yucatán, whether in Mérida or other parts of the state. He also highlighted a partnership between Conade and the State government to further promote sports like beach volleyball.

Looking ahead, Marrufo announced plans to restructure the Conade Nationals in 2026, as the process for the next schedule has already begun at the state level. He also expressed his intention to transform the structure of sports federations in Mexico, giving athletes a greater voice and involvement in the process.
