Yucatan Coast Set for New Helipad to Boost Tourism by 2026

Plans are underway to construct a helipad on the Yucatecan Riviera to attract more tourists and stimulate the local economy. The helipad, which will be located in Telchac Puerto, will have the capacity to accommodate up to five helicopters. Operations are expected to commence by late 2026 or early 2027.

The initiative is led by Diané Carrillo Vega, president of the Mexican Association of Businesswomen and Executives of the Southeast A.C. Carrillo Vega shared that the legal processes required to implement the air transport service are currently in progress. The service aims to spotlight one of Yucatan's main attractions, which has been somewhat overlooked in the past.

The helipad will be built on a half-hectare plot, approximately 5,000 square meters, owned by the Tierra del Mar Group. This group offers consulting and accommodation services and is spearheading the construction of the helipad. The company is currently liaising with federal authorities in Mexico City to secure the necessary permits, as the airspace falls under federal jurisdiction.

The aim is to establish air connections from Tulum and Cancun to Telchac and vice versa. The helipad will feature a landing runway, hangars capable of housing five aircraft, reception rooms, and visitor services. Carrillo Vega hopes that the helipad will stimulate the local economy by providing a platform for regional artisan shops to sell their products to both domestic and international tourists.

The project will be completely privately funded, and Carrillo Vega is encouraging other investors to contribute to this initiative.
